We’ve just finished a project we’re proud of. LEGOLAND® Windsor asked us to build a lockable acrylic display case for the Driving School merchandise counter. It’s now installed on site in Windsor and doing the simple job it was made for – keeping products secure and in clear view while guests queue for their driving licences.
We also designed and printed a custom printed base to tie the case to the Driving School theme. The road layout sets the scene for the models and gives staff a single, tidy surface to merchandise on.

Why this project matters to us
At BOXXCO we’re known for our LEGO® display cases for the home. This brief was different. It needed to be a permanent fixture for a busy theme-park environment. Being chosen by LEGOLAND for a job like this means a lot. We live and breathe LEGO displays, so building something for the place that celebrates the brick felt like the right fit.
The brief in plain terms
- Clear sightlines from every angle
- Lockable access for staff
- Tough enough for daily use in a high-traffic space
- Clean look that sits with the Driving School branding
The case needed to look simple and stay that way after thousands of opens and closes.
Our solution
We built a fully enclosed cabinet from optically clear acrylic with polished edges. The lid is hinged and secured with twin cam locks so staff can load stock fast and keep it safe when the counter is unmanned. Metal hinges are through-bolted for strength. Fixings are neat and consistent, which matters on a clear case where every detail shows.

Inside, we added a clear hanging rail for the T-shirt and a stable shelf for smaller items like caps, cups and boxed sets. The layout keeps the hero item high and central, with room below for impulse buys. Everything reads at a glance.
Built for the real world
Theme-park retail is tough on fixtures. The case sits by an open counter where it deals with changes in temperature and constant handling. Acrylic is the right material here. It keeps weight down, resists knocks, and stays bright with basic care. The design avoids dust traps and awkward corners, so cleaning is quick between trading days.
The printed base helps here too, it’s a flat, easy-clean surface that reduces visual clutter and keeps smaller items stable.
Security and access had equal weight. Staff can open the case, rotate stock, and lock up in seconds and guests see a tidy display that doesn’t invite fingers.
Installation day at Windsor
We prefabricated the case in our workshop, test-fitted all hardware, then delivered for a straight install on the Driving School counter. The footprint was measured to millimetre accuracy, so it dropped into place without shims or packing. Within the hour the team was loading T-shirts, caps and figures, and the unit was ready for guests.
How this differs from our usual product line
Most BOXXCO cases are made for collectors at home. They’re modular, they flat-pack, and they move with you. This case is different:
- It’s a permanent display
- Hardware is site-grade with through-bolts and cam locks
- The interior is set up for merchandising, with rail and shelf
- The finish has to hold up under daily public use
- Integrated printed base for consistent merchandising and theming
That shift guided every choice. Heavier fixings. Simpler access. Fewer parts. More time on edge quality and hinge alignment so opening and closing feels solid week after week.

Why LEGOLAND chose BOXXCO
We think it’s two things. First, we know LEGO products and how people look at them. Sightlines, scale, reflections – the small stuff adds up. Second, we fabricate in house and stand behind the build. When you’re fitting a case that will be used by hundreds of families each day, you don’t want surprises.

Results
The counter now has a clean focal point that matches the Driving School graphics and keeps stock safe. Guests see what’s on offer without distraction. Staff have a fixture that works the same at 9am and 5pm. The case looks like it belongs there, which is the best compliment a display can get.
